My Ego Wants Money, My Soul Wants to Serve
Sep 29, 2024We often associate success with financial gain—pursuing higher salaries and bigger profits in the hope that these will make us happy. But have you ever achieved a financial goal only to find that you still feel an emptiness inside?
Contrast Between Ego and Soul
Our ego is the part of us that seeks approval and success through wealth and status. It tells us that more money means more happiness. On the other hand, our soul looks for deeper fulfillment, which we find through service and meaningful connections. While our ego pushes us toward financial achievements, our soul urges us to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
Powerful Insight
A powerful thought struck me recently when I read this statement: "Don’t focus on the million dollars you could earn, but on the million people you could help." This insight encourages us to shift our focus from accumulating wealth to serving others—a change that can deeply satisfy our soul's desires.
Benefits of Serving Others
By prioritizing help over profits, we not only find personal fulfillment but often discover that financial success follows naturally. When our actions are aligned with our soul’s desire to serve, we achieve a more profound and lasting form of happiness, which we can truly call joy.
There is Goodness in the Big Thing
In my book, "Act on the Big Thing," I discuss how acting on the big thing is about bringing goodness into the world. It’s about making a real difference by contributing to and helping others. This focus taps into the best parts of ourselves and creates lasting impacts.
